1994 ECU Problem...

I have a 94 LT1 and recently put a used computer in it. It would not run with the original, but runs good with the used. However, the check engine light is on and i cannot communicate with computer. Is it just a flashing needed?

Some type of scanners have problems with our cars. What type are you using? Do you have the Hypertech programmer hooked up?

Can't remember the scan tool, it was a buddies, but even my hypertech can't communicate. I would think that it wouldn't even run if it needed to be flashed to the VIN.

I'm running a borrowed stock Pcm in my 94. The Pcm is from a 94 Z... I was going to buy a scan tool but it wouldn't read the Pcm... as was mentioned above, there are scanners that won't communicate with our cars...

Those scan tools i ran across will communicate with 93 and early 94's, but 94&1/2's they won't... I know my car's a 94 1/2 because of the Vin and it also has a traction control light in the dash..

I'm actively seeking a tech1 or 2 GM tool.

You could also buy the cable and use a laptop and the free software to scan your car...

Tunercat I think is the software.. I'm not sure on that... I've been away for a little while.... now I'm picking it back up lol.

There is no difference between and "early" 94 and a "late" 94 with regard to scanning. There is a difference in the fan setup, but that's irrelavent. They did not add a traction control light in "late" 94. There is a "LOW TRAC" light, but that's on all 94's and is used to indicate the ABS has activated.

Tunercat is OBD-I tuning software, not scanning software. Scanning software is TTS DataMaster or FreeScan.
