1993 Z28, white smoke on startup

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this but I did not know where to put this. When I start the car smoke starts to come up from somewhere below and behind the alternator. It some what looks like it's coming from off the exhaust manifold but I could not tell. I do not believe it is coming from the alternator itself but somewhere below. The coolant and oil levels are perfect and I don't think it's leaking anything.

What does the smoke smell like? Definitely a difference between the smell of coolant (sweet) and overheating/burning electronics.

This is an acceptable topic for "LT1 Based Engine Tech". I'll move it there for you.

Might be an issue with the A/C compressor electromagnetic clutch pull-in. Hard to tell based on the description. Not my area of expertise.

...or could be a plastic bag that got stuck on the exhaust pipe...

OP, you are much closer to the car than we are. "plastic" smell may be something stuck or touching the exhaust manifold. You need to look carefully from top and under car for "something" (plastic bag you ran over). With that said that type of thing would burn off fairly quick....so confirm some part is not failing and burning.

Take your belt off to confirm all pulleys and accessories spin freely

leaking valve cover gasket dripping oil on exhaust...but that smells like....oil

Did you ever find the source of the smoke/smell?

There a lot of oil covering the underneath of the car so it's probably a leak but the oil level seems fine
