1993 Z28 VATS bypass? Please help.
1993 Z28 VATS bypass? Please help.
Hi all,
I tried searching on this, but I heard the the 1993 Camaro VATS system is different than the later years. Is this true?
I'm sick and tired of my VATS system giving me the old "3 minute coffee break" when I try to start the car. What is the easiest way to bypass this on a 1993 Z28?
Thanks!
Greg

The system is basically the same as 94+ and the same tricks will work. Measure the resistance of your key chip, get a matching value resistor at Radio Shack, jumper the little two pin connector on the thin two wire VATS line under your dash (purple & white I belive) and you're done. Do a search and double check the info because I'm quoting from memory of what I've read, not what I've done. I unfortunately didn't find the bypass info till after I paid Chevy to replace my ignition.

Shoebox has a guide to the VATS system. It includes links to his resistor bypass wiring diagrams. You would just need verification that it is fully applicable to the 93, and just looking at the wiring diagram and comparing it to yours would probably accomplish that.

The wiring for the bypass is located in the steering column.
Are you indicating that there is a wiring problem under the fuse box under the hood, and that you are able to start the car by lifting the fuse box? If that's the case, how do you feel this is a VATS problem?
