Alright heres the vehicle.

1993 Camaro Z28 LT1 built 700R4 with 3.73's
I bought the car with shorty headers, 3" Y pipe with a 3" high flow cat and a Borla exhaust. The car also has a CAI on it and suposedly a chip.
Heres my problem. my car runs horrible. runs rich as hell at idle as well as when im off the throttle. but the car runs very lean while im in the gas. i only know this because i hooked it up to my friends computer. i have a couple codes but i cant remember the one im throwing that could be affected what is happening. but i get horrible MPG roughly 7-9 maybe. i used to pull 13+. there is no power what so ever. punching it from a stand still will barely spin the tires. i used to have 0 traction in 1st. now i need the break to spin them. i get a back fire every once in a while when i let go of the gas. but the car overall feels like a slug. i replaced the TPS sensor because there was a code with that helped nothing. tried disconnecting the battery for a while. helped until i drove the car for 2 minute then ran like ****. but for that 2 minutes the car felt good. i replaced plugs and wires but i would assume it has something to do with a sensor or fuel delivery. any help at all would be appreciated. thanks Larry

I too have a 93,if you have a book for the car it will tell you how to jump your diagnostic port and show the codes on the service engine light. If you dont have a book i would suggest getting one for details on how to. once you've pulled the codes let us know what its thowing. Also get the pcm and open up the chip panel and check if the chip has any aftermarket brand on it of such. Finding out more on the chip would help out alot, like who made it and what was reprogrammed/deleted. It could be something simple if you say it ran fine before. but trouble shooting is the key and it takes time. also check for any leakage from the waterpump around the optispark. When i bought my car it had a similar problem and i replaced opti and problems solved, keep us posted.

Get the codes, courtesy of Shoebox:

Then look them up:

Sounds like a problem with the A/F ratio control. With the 93's speed-density system, a faulty MAP sensor or IAT sensor can be a major problem. Could be the coolant tem sensor. Then there's the O2 sensors. Get the code - might direct you to the source of the problem.

This is not an "Advanced Tech" question. It's typical of the problems discussed on the "LT1 Based Engine Tech" forum, so I'll move your post there.

Alright ill get the codes and check them out. only 1 would cause an issue and it has something to do with fuel. but the TPS was off so i replaced it and it said the O2 sensors were reading within reason. so ill get the codes thanks guys

Hey guys, i used the links you gave me and im not throwing any codes. which sensors could be bad without throwing any codes. we hooked the car up to my friends laptop and we were throwing 3 codes but we replaced the TPS because we were reading the code TPS voltage low. we unhooked the battery and let the car sit for a bit and now we arent throwing codes. My speed sensor is bad so i have no Speedo so i know why i threw that one. there was a 3rd code that i dont remember. but i know the injector pulse rate was low. i have no idea whats up. fuel regulator? maybe? everything else looked alright. but the car is running horrible thanks

The is no code for "injector pule rate low". There is only a code for electrical continuity of the injectors drive circuits.

Check that coolent temp sensor (the one in the water pump). I had one go bad and it stuck at the lowest temp. The car ran pig rich and almost wouldnt run when warmed up. Looked at the data logger and it was saying the coolent temp was <40* and it threw no code.

Check the vaccume to the FPR and make sure the regulator isnt leaking.
