1993 firebird fomula go fast tips
I was just wondering what I can do to my 93 firebird to get it to run faster at the strip?
I have installed a flowmaster cat back system, hypertech chip, clod air intake and msd ignition box and coil.
At this point in time it has run a best of 14.0 at 98 m.p.h. I know that there is more that can be done but Im not sure where to start.
I have checked the plugs and at this point in time the engine seems to be right on borderline lean. I was told that installing an adjutable fuel regulator would help, is this true?
I was also told that I may need to get a new chip burnt for the computer.
Any help would be gretly appreciated
Thanks

I think one of the easiest and quickest ways to add some more power would be a set of headers and a y-pipe. Easy bolt on mod.
What rear-end are you running?
An AFPR would help if your engine is running universally lean. You should get a scan program and a laptop hookup cable to check what your computer thinks is going on tho to be sure.
After that, I would look into a new cam and valvetrain. That can be big $$$ tho, so again, headers are the biggest bang for the cheapest buck for what you have now, IMO.
Good luck!

both our cars are basically the same, and i ran times in sig spinning through the gears. i was expecting a 13.9-14.1 but i couldnt hook w/ my street tires. i think you should get a 3000 stall, which should give you better et's. just got a Hughes 3000 stall and all i have to say is that i should have done this a long time ago.it really wakes the car up at all MPH, no more dead spots.i wanted some mac mids but i decided that i could possibly get a better et going w/ a stall, plus i already have a cutout after the y-pipe so thats good enough for now. if you cant afford a stall $500+, just get a cutout($30),gears($185+install), and a custom tune($125+) which should put you in the mid 13's easy.
Re: 1993 firebird fomula go fast tips
Im not sure what you are talking about when you are referring to a cutout or a custom tune? It would be appreciated if you could clear this up for me.
Thanks for the tips

Re: 1993 firebird fomula go fast tips
a cutout is a cheap mod (30 bucks) you install in your exhaust system that you can open and it lets the exhaust flow through the cut out instead of the muffler and or cats, its kinda like a y pipe with a cap on one side that you can open. hope this helps, if not do a search
Re: 1993 firebird fomula go fast tips
the way i have my cutout setup(right after y-pipe) allows me to run basically open headers or in my case manifolds. it allows the exhaust to exit before the cat and muffler to give more HP. (example... my old 94 T/A ran consistent 14-14.1@97, uncapped cutout and ran 13.8@99 15min. later) now a custom tune or "chip" in our case can be used to fine tune your setup for proper a/f ratios, or optimize parameters in the factory ECM. this usually adds around 5-15 hp depending on application. cutouts can be ordered through summit, jegs, or local race shop, and a custom tune can be done by members on this board(PCM4less, Madwolf) for decent prices. so if you get a cutout and a chip that should put you around a 13.6-13.9 and some 3.73's should get you 13.4-13.7 depending on track, weather, altitude, and other things.
i havent ran my car yet w/ the stall but most people see .2-.5 difference, so conservatively that should put me in the mid to high 13's on some et streets. my car really feels strong now through out the RPM range, brother drove my car and said it feels almost as strong as his. BTW he has a 94Z w/ shorties, cai, gears, pulleys, flowmaster, shiftkit, and free mods. his car has run 13.3@102 in good weather, but there's no way of knowing for sure what my car can do. i hope this helped you out a little.

Re: 1993 firebird fomula go fast tips
I have had 3 93 LT1 cars.
#1. Throw away the hypertech chip=junk. OK better to just sell it
2. Get a chip from pcmforless(WAY Better!) Big difference in Hyperjunk and PCMforless chips. Usually CAI, headers and gears make the biggest difference in 93s to start with. Just my advice from 9 years of fooling around with 3 different 93 Z28s.
Find out if your car is running lean also. LT1s are usually known for running kinda rich. That's one reason they do so well using nitrous.

the next thing i would do is is put a set of headers on it
Then down the road a good set of aftermarked or ported heads and a cam such as comp cams 306 1.6 rocker arms new valve springs

Thanks for all of the great tips guys. Yes the car is an automatic.
I was also woundeing how these guys from pcmforless chips know what to burn onto the chip for you and what kind of cost it may be to get one in Canada where I am?
Thanks again for all of the tips
