1993 52mm Throttle Body and Injectors
1993 52mm Throttle Body and Injectors
If I'm reading this page correctly, there's more to the 52mm upgrade than just swapping it with the stock one in my 1993 LT1 M6. Should I upgrade to 30# injectors (22# stock) and get the PCM reprogramming at the same time as the 52mm throttle body so that I don't have to worry about getting even larger ones once I do more work on the car? Also, what's the deal with places selling them matched? Is it worth the extra money?
Comments or suggestions are appreciated!

Here's what the page says:
Will I need a custom computer chip?
Most TPI and LT1 motors w/ MAF sensor will not. This is a very smart system and will adjust for the extra air you are letting in to the motor. The ECM will "learn" new fuel curves over time. MAF systems can even handle mild cam upgrades, headers and high flow exhaust. With MAP based systems (all TBIs and early '90s TPI/LT1s) you will need to adjust fuel pressure and add larger injectors to help compensate for the extra air. However, the bottom line is that for optimal performance, you will probably need a new PROM in your MAP based system. Same goes for radical changes to MAF based systems

Hmmm. I did 58MM t-body, 30# injectors, heads, cam, new chip, etc. all at the same time.
You will have to get a new chip if you swap injectors. I'm not sure if you will just by swapping t-bodies.

According to the page, I need bigger injectors to support the 52mm throttle body because I have a speed density sensor instead of MAF. I realize that that also means a reprogramming.

What other mods do you have? If you do not have any there is really nothing at all to gain from putting on a 52mm. Remeber just because your putting more air/fuel in the motor you still have to get rid of it aka. headers, exhaust. If you already have other mods such as headers, exhaust, CAI you might see some gains from it. Our 93's have 22# injectors in them stock while 94 and up have 24# ones. You can go to the 24's with out any reprograming....I've done it and I know many others that have to.....even with the stock throttle body. If you do have other mods a PCM tune will only enhance those mods...I would strongly suggest it as soon as you can swing it. If you have no mods I wouldn't start at the throttle body first...do the other metioned mods and some gears you will be much happier.
Right now I just have a K&N, 160 degree thermostat (Yeah, I know it doesn't help much until the fans are reprogrammed), throttle body bypass for the cooling system, Kenny Brown DD subframe connectors, Global West tubular upper control arms with Del-a-lum bushings, and a Pro 5.0 shifter with Lou's short stick. A BBK underdrive pulley is in the mail and goes on this weekend.
I want to get the 52mm throttle body with air foil ($200 after core exchange), shortie headers, and a high-flow cat (I need a new one anyway) all at the same as when I get the PCM for less reprogramming done. That way I only do it once for the bolt-on mods that affect the tuning according to their order form. From what I've read, the 52mm throttle body is a good upgrade to match the intake manifold and it improves performance even on stock setups. Hey, I'm willing to spend the $ since I'll need to do it sooner or later anyway. After all of this, I'll quickly move through the following one at a time: The ram air assembly for my hood, Hooker catback exhaust, 1.6 RRs. I've looked extensively into the gears and am kinda afraid to touch it until I have the money to upgrade to a 12 bolt rear end at the same time. Even then, I'm undecided on what to get. I'm leaning towards the 4.10s for my M6, but have some people telling me that it's too much for street and I should go with 3.73s.
I hope that explains some more and TIA for any additional insight.
