195 degree thermostat

Are there any long style 195 thermostats that will fit my 94lt1. I am currently using a 180. I think I should be running hotter. I never reach
the 190 mark. My radiator fan comes on at 185. Please note this Lt1 is
transplanted into an older ford.

Stock is 180. Don't know about the availability of a higher temp one. Why not adjust the fan ON temp? That will give you the best control of engine temp.

Re: 195 degree thermostat

The LT1's "reverse flow" cooling system is the reason for the 180* t'stat. In effect, with the coolant hitting the heads first, and then being heated up by the lower block, its one of the reasons the engine is able to run a higher compression ratio and aggressive ignition timing. By the time the hot coolant comes out of the engine, it is the same temperature as coolant from a conventional flow system.

The fan on/off temp's are controlled by the PCM, based on the coolant temp SENSOR (not a "switch") readings. To change the fan on/off temps, the PCM needs a new flash program. Or, a Hypertech handheld tuner can make the changes. This assumes your PCM is from a 94-97 model. 93 is different. It would help if you added a "Signature" so we know the details of the vehicle/engine/controls combo. There are a lot of subtle variations from year-to-year in the LT1's.

Is it possible your cooling system has been modified to use a switch to control the fans, rather than the CLT sensor/PCM? I ask, because in another thread you asked about using teflon on the threads of a temperature SWITCH. This would explain DTC 77, which you reported in another thread.

I would consider yourself lucky and leave it alone. Most strive for cooler running temps and usually run 160* thermostats including me. Mine stays around 170*.
