160 t-stat, i am overheating?
i had one quick question on my 95 BBB i suspect the t-stat to be faulty its a 160 and i changed it about 3 years back i think it might be the culprit i wanted to know if it could be the t-stat if you can wrap your hand or grip the lower radiator hose with no problem as its not HOT.its also a little hard to squeze but not crazy but then if you touch the top hose its super hot to touch nonetheless you cant even grab it does this mean the T-STAT is to blame everything is working correctly no AIR in the system and both fans running with coolant in the system as well.
any help would be great.

well i pulled out the t-stat and its working PROPERLY opening at 160 degrees i have a mezeire electric water pump and its also working along with both fans can anyone tell me why this is happening....
why would the top hose be so hot and the bottom one be so cold?

pulling the tstat takes 2 seconds. Run the system without the tstat and see what happens.
Check flow, your water pump might running, but screwed up.
I assume, since it been 3 years, you did get the correct tstat (the thingy at the bottom moves)? The standard/generic automotive design/type thermostat will cause over heating.

well i had pulled out the radiator to get the AN fittings wlded onto it correctly and i guess the engine built a large air pocket which didnt allow the motor to fill completly up with water didnt realize this till i pulled t-stat to check and saw it dry filled it up with about 1 gallon and half of antifrezze. Car was running cool the whole time no problems.
just one question i was running a catch can off the radiator fill neck to a plastic about 1 qt container with an inlet on top and a valve on the bottom to release the fluid it also has a small vent pin hole at the top of the container. i wanted to know do i need a larger container for the overflow, i think i need one for the track according to nhra but can the lt1 cooling system run without a overflow and should it?Also should the inlet be placed higher then the fill neck on the radiator? if you were wondering i am running a 2 core alum radiator this is why i ask for help.
