160 degree thermostat

I have a Hypertech 160 degree thermostat on order for my 93z28(computer chip). My question is if I put in in ,will I see any difference in performance. any downside to having it in without a chip right now. Let me know pros and cons. Or should I just get a chip(160 dollars) and be done with it. thanks,Pickerman

you have to get a fan switch to see a difference in temperature, the factory settings are really high. I put a fan switch in and actually took out my thermostat. my car stays below 185 now and runs like a champ. with the 160 thermo in it will run colder and colder means more horsepower.

a colder and better running car = more gas and more aggressive timing. If its colder than the computer might stay out of closed loop also

I recommend getting your pcm tuned by pcmforless.com. They can program your fans to come on sooner and give you more horsepower. The thermostat by itself won't give you any noticeable differences, but the tuning will.

I have to try hard to not scratch in second gear now!

I recomend sticking with a new 180 because the 160 does not let your oil get up to temperature so the water condensation in the crank case dosent evaporate as quickly.
