160° Stat require new chip/program?
Does the instalation of 160° (or 180°) stat require a new chip/program to prevent any conflict of parameters controled by the computer. I realize that a new chip/program can take advantage of the anticipated lower operating temperature (better timing and fuel curves) but what I want to make sure of is that there is no possible negative side effect of running a 160° stat without a program change.
The factory guys all say that the car won't run right with the stock program because the computer will never sense the required operating temp and will never get into the right "mode". This didn't sound right to me so I thought I'd ask some of you "tuners" out there.

I have the 160* t-stat and no programming. Nothing bad here. Car runs cooler but still gets up to 220* if I let it idle long enough. I dont know about 93s but my Z28 came stock with a 180* t-stat.
No programming is required. The only thing you might want to do is have your fan turn-on temps lowered to take advantage of the lower temp thermostat. That can be done by programming or a plug in fan switch (like from SLP or JET). Your computer will not have any trouble with the lower thermostat.
If you want to read a little more about using the 160º thermostat, look here.

Thanks Shoebox,
I have the Jet switch and had always assumed I had the 160° stat because the car ran so cool but I resently changed the stat because the old one seemed to be sticking and found I had a 180° so I wanted to double check before installing the 160°.
