The first one I got from this guy on ebay had a bad optical sensor and I tore it off and sent it back to the guy, and sent a nice little message in the box, telling him to check the one that he sent back to me to MAKE SURE it was a good one. I have a feeling he knows that some of the opti's he sells are bad, and he also knows which ones are good. He sent me a second one and I currently have 800 trouble free miles on it. Car has run GREAT!

*crosses fingers*

lol at this

this is what all ingnition said to me about optical sensors

Its very unfortunate, but as far as i can tell most optisparks have a known problem with the optical sensor becoming defective, this is why AC Delco stopped giving a lifetime warranty from their dealer locations. All the units are checked at factory but we cannot tell how it will function untill the unit is installed on the vehicle. We probably have 1 out of 12 units effected with this or a similar problem. The high performance unit is the only optispark unit we have that has a zero defect rate, it costs $600 but it is well worth it considering all the headache the standard opti is known to give. If you want to go this route, we can give you a credit of $150 plus another $100 off the price. Let me know...
Thanks

The high performance unit? Is the increase in performance attributable to a lighter wallet?

He says they are GM units. Does GM even make a "high performance" optispark?

I'm certainly no authority, but I've never heard mention of a high performance GM optispark. I suspect the guy is lying to you.

You get what you pay for seems to be very true for mechanical parts.

It could be that High Performance=AC Delco, and standard=All Ignition brand.

But that's not the guy's claim - he says they are all genuine AC Delco. And you could do a helluva lot better that $600 somewhere else.

If you need a new opti, and don't particularly need an "improvement" over stock, just find a wholesale dealer and get an AC/Delco or a Delphi.

^^ You've gone through too much trouble with the Allignition crook. I didn't return the bad opti I got from him because I didn't want to keep swapping out opti's. Order a GM unit from Summit/Jegs or a Delphi from Thepartsladi and be done with it.

Glad, I didnt get took by him. I bought one from him a year ago before I knew all of this. I mounted it but never started the car.

Anyway, since it had been less then a week from ordering from him, he let me return it minus a 15% restocking fee, but whatever. I was just happy to get some most of my money back, after hearing stories of people not getting there money at all.

I bought a ac delco one from the partsladi on ebay and my car as been fine every since, I think im coming up to 5k with it now. Should last as long as the original (123k) one.

Mine came in a box that had a Delphi sticker on the side and was not opened previously. There were a couple of noticeable differences between the Delphi unit that came from Thepartsladi and the one from Allignition. The Delphi unit has a different drive (looks exactly like the GM unit that originally came off my car) and the caps were different. As far as the insides go, I didn't open up the Delphi unit. The Delphi unit does have a different cap than we are accustom to seeing and is made in Mexico (like alot of GM parts).

So far the Delphi unit has run flawlessly for about 5 months now and I haven't heard of anyone having any problems from them.

Mine came in a acdelco box that had been open by them prolly to verifly what was in it. Ive had mine on my car for a while now and no problems, also bought a oem waterpump that came in the oem acdelco waterpump box within another box, no problems with that either.

I recommend them.
