12 bolt? Yes or no?
12 bolt? Yes or no?
If I have some Jet-Hot LTs, 3.73 gears, Hooker Catback, SLP CAI, a 230/236 cam with pro mags, and a 2800 stall converter will I need a 12 bolt? This is the setup I will have by Christmas, and I am curious as to weather or not I should get the 12 bolt before I do all this or see if the 10 bolt holds. I know the 12 bolt is always a good thing, but do I NEED it? Any ideas?
You're gonna NEED it, cause your mods will not end.
Even at the power you're putting down, I've seen alot of local guys kill the rears when they get the slicks on... especially with the 4.10's.
You'll eventually have to go 12-bolt, 9" out of necessity. But if you keep the car off the track, the rear should hold up a long time. YMMV.
Good luck.

Save your $$$ for a 12 bolt or 9" as you WILL need it later. It's only a mater of time...
I blew up the stock rear too with an A4, before I installed the stroker.
It really depends on many factors like how often to you race, the details of your launch technique, and how you feel about knowing that at any time you will be calling a tow truck to get home.
Everything breaks, even the 12 bolt/9 inch crowd has problems, but the stock rear with decent tires on a sticky track is a time bomb. Three years in a row my rear went. I am now on my third season with the 12 bolt and no problems.
