12 bolt question
I was just reading trey's post (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=108453) about truck 12 bolts....
Anyways, this peaked my curiosity...could one potentially get a 12 bolt off a truck and fit it to a 95 z28???
Basically, the end goal is to save some $$ and be able to use 4.10s on slicks. Any ideas welcome.
thx,

-it would have to be exactly the same width, or would need to be narrowed or widened to fit the 4th Gen
-you would have to transfer/weld all the attachment brackets
-you would have to design/build/weld on a torque arm mount
-you would have to replace the axle tube "ends" with the 4th Gen brake mounting hardware
-if it didn't have the right bolt pattern, you would need new axles.
-you would need to check and make sure it had a posi, but you would be wise to rebuild a used posi anyway...
-you would need to have the gears replaced if you didn't happen to find one with exactly what you want
-the "truck" rears are likely to be heavier than the passenger car rears.
So, the answer is "yes, with a little work".

right on. I must say that i've never worked on my cars myself until i got the camaro. it's been quite a rewarding experience so far.
As i said, i would love to switch out that rear-end...and Injuneer made a good point...truck rear-ends are heavier...so what other alternatives might i pursue? without paying the 2+ grand to get one new of course
