12.5:1 383 And 87 Octane

As the title states my z has a 12.5:1 383 stroker engine. The lady at Sunoco thought it would be a good idea to fill it with 87 instead of the 94 I clearly told her to put in it!! In order to get it home without blowing it up I had to keep the revs at 3500 - 4000 with no load. I guess the tank will have to be drained before I can drive the z again.

Any who seeing as this is lt1 tech does anyone have an easy way to drain the tank?

Also you think I should send Sunoco a bill for draining it?

The manager said and I quote "oh it will work fine off 87 octane".

Yeah that’s why I pay 20c more a liter and drive 15 min to get gas here! lol

You can disconnect the fuel rail or maybe the line at the fuel filter and use the fuel pump prime connector underneath the hood on the passenger side to run the pump until most of the 87 gas it out.

Sending a bill to Sunoco is probably going to result in a waste of $0.37 in postage.

You mean there is still such a thing as full service? I would think someone had been on drugs if they asked me if they could fill the tank. It just doesn't happen here. But in New Jersey, you can't pump your own gas. Go figure.

Dam, they still make full service gas stations, havent seen one of those in awhile. You could add like 5 bottles of octane booster..j/k. But anyway, how are you running one 94 even with that much compression, unless im mistaken I thought the most you could run is 11:1, you must be getting buttloads of timing retard.

Octane booster won't work. They're a scam.
When they say they will add an octane point or two, it means that with a bottle you will go from 87 to 87.2 not 89 like most people think...

Nope, I'm running right around 12.5:1 as well on 93 octane with absolutely no problems due to the fuel.

Edit: I'm a retard and didn't think before I typed. I'm running right around 11.5:1, not 12.5:1. This is still above the 11:1 that you stated, but not quite the 12.5:1. I appologize.

Have you ever scanned it or run 110 in it to see the difference, seems to me that that is too much compression to run pump gas.

From: Michigan is a decent state.
3 or 4 gallons of 110 octane should balance things out.

[(4 *110) + (10 * 87 )] / 14= 93.5

plus you already had some 93 or 94 in there

jonaddis84, I've never ran anything higher than 110, but I have logged it with datamaster and everything is just fine. No knock, and full timing. Please check the changes to the previous post.

12.5:1

Well about the compression.
It wasnt supposed to be that high I told the shop to order a rotating assembly to put me at 11:1 they got flat tops with 5 cc dish. so... I ended up at 12.5:1 long story......

the car does pull timing if you lug it under 3000 but i dont do that! it will cruse at 70 mph in 6 if you arent going up hill without detonating.

I usualy pump my own gas even at full serve but it was raining today.

sunoco ultra 94 is great it is the best pump gas you can buy!

i am going to put 373 gears and a huge cam to some what help with the compression. any sugestions on cam to run? I have a hotcam and it aint cutting it!

NOS octane boost raises .7 so i would need 10 bottles to get to 94 octane at 20$ a bottle (canadian)

like madwolf said scam
