11sec LT1
Re: 11sec LT1
AI For LIFE. Lmao so only use dwaynes info because his car is "faster than usual"? For you too say le heads wont get the job done or even stock homeported heads is totally ****. You have great info man but come off as a total a.i n*thugger. I've read a few posts of yours talking about how inferior afr and lloyd elliot heads are as opposed too ai heads. While le heads aren't cnc'd they are proven too make power. Before this gets into a heated arguement ill just say this you are always right and we are always wrong with our inferior non-ai products
Re: 11sec LT1
The best part about this site is all the opinions and its up to you to figure out what YOU want. It would be boring if only the hard core professional got to give their advice and leave the rest of us out of it. Great post to read!

Re: 11sec LT1
Wet Kit and a 12 Bolt will do it. A bolt on LT1 with nitrous will run deep in to the 11s all day on a 125-150 shot. Be a lot less work, and with the right tuning and proper safety precautions like Tuning, Fuel Pressure Saftey Switch, Window switch and colder plugs, it's a very reliable set up that will meet your goals.

Re: 11sec LT1
You know what's going to happen it this turns into an AI vs LE thread. We've had way too many of those, and I see dennis5374 fueling the fire by starting the name calling.
Knock it off, everyone.
Knock it off, everyone.
Re: 11sec LT1
Just a little info I know somebody casting and developing a canted valve head for the ls gang which will flow upwards of 390 to 420 cfm and considered my request of doing a lt1 variant so we do have some help out there it just takes time and besides its not the head that gets you down the track its the total

Re: 11sec LT1
Im not defending lloyd elliot afr trickflow ai or any. All im saying is that for an 11 second car any of the above will work but wasn't the idea too do it as cheaply as possible? For me that's having a set of stock castings hand ported correctly. Imho if his goal is only 11's then why shoot for heads that with supporting mods will hit 9's? I could understand the logic behind it if he was looking too build an all out race motor from top too bottom but 1.6 rr's a decent cam and some portwork too his stock casting will be as cheap as it gets. Anyone who can read and interpret info ad well as run a die grinder can port there own heads. Just trying too help him with his goal and not break the bank.
Re: 11sec LT1
Everyone thank you for your input! it's greatly appreciated. I apologize for not getting back on here to get involved in the conversations. This weekend was a little crazy to say the least.
Looks like I have a lot of posts to go through this evening and try to respond to everyones input the best I can.
Thanks to everyone again!

Re: 11sec LT1
Yes dennis5374, you are very correct in stating that I'm trying to get into the 11's without breaking the bank. Now granted I would love to have a street car that runs 9s, but that is probably a little far out of the bank range. I just want a nice red-light to red-light car that is very respectable on the street. Would I like to be able to dump 10k and rip the seam out of my pants...well who wouldnt? I just have to be a little realistic at this point in time with $$.
As 96capricemgr stated, the 7.5" rear is a concern for me as well. It seems to be the weak link in the car but what about the M6? I've heard its rated for about 450 horsepower...do I need to be concerned about grenading the transmission? Also, I don't plan on buying cheap parts...to be honest...I'm not sure the best recommended parts for the LT1 shortblock. I want my car to be very streetable and be able to keep up with the cars on the street. If you recommend any other shortblock rebuild components let me know. I see that you recommend AI...and then others recommending AFR. Which set of heads will allow more HP in the end? If we are talking a 5-600 bucks on heads that will produce more power in the future I would def. go with the better head.
henry, appreciate the input but I prefer the M6 transmission over an automatic. I dont plan on racing this car at the track. I like the manual transmission and the thought of switching to an AUTO isn't the route I would like to go.
Maybe I need to sit down and try to come up with some options and go from there with prices. From everyone's input the concensus seems to be heads and cam to start.
So lets start a parts list, then decide on brands and prices.
1. Heads (custom machining or package deal)
2. Cam
3. Roller Rockers (1.6 ratio??)
4. Valves/springs
5. Rods/lifters
6. 58mm TB
7. Intake
7. Long tube headers
8. PCM programming
How does that list sound to start?

Re: 11sec LT1
Also ur stock intake should support what u wanna do. A holley 58mm tb will run close to 400. Pacesetter lt's 289-500. 1.6 rr's 300-600. Ferrea stainless valves are 220 for intake 220 exhaust. Springs vary widely. Hydraulic roller cam off the shelf 300, custom billet grind 350-400. Machining stock heads free-600. Adtermarket 1200-2400. Not sure on the tuning as my car takes a chip and yours is a pcm. M6 should hold up fine for what your looking for. Im going too be installing a ford 8.8 traktion lol rear as i can't afford a 9" or 12 bolt
Re: 11sec LT1
I have the 8.8 already because i have a 88 thunderbird turbo coupe that im parting out. U can find them for 200 all over. Need custom axles from miser and have to modify torque arm but from what i hear its a pretty straight forward swap
Re: 11sec LT1
My tbird was putting down 380 to the wheels with a 4 cylinder turbo. The rear was stronger than the motor. Laying down 21# of boost with a stock 2.3 ford motor. It didn't last long lol the t5 was wicked solid . I was thinking about getting a new bell housing and throwing that in my lt1 also. Cheaper than a t56 by a long shot considering i already have the transmission. If your interested in a 8.8 rearend i know where there's 3-4 at my buddies junkyard.
