10w-30 castrol syntec. My question is why do you run 40weight in the winter and 30 in the summer? I ran my 10-30 from 117k to 135k

I used to do something like that but it was the other way around. You'd want to run a thinner viscosity in the winter because cold weather tends to keep your oil a little thicker. Summer, if you want to thicken it up because of stop and go traffic in 100 degree weather go ahead. It sounds like it's still a good idea.

To answer your question, there is probably no reason to change oil type just because you've clocked over 100,000. There may be some advantage to going to one of the oils, blended for high mileage cars. It is a good idea if you have notice a slight decrease in oil pressure over the years. In this case going from a 10W30 to a 10W40 may help, and certainly is not going to hurt.
Changing your oil seasonally is also probably not necessary. But again won't hurt.
However you are susposed to go from a 10W30 to a 5W30. Or from a 10W40 to a 5W40, summer to winter. Changing the high end, 30W or 40W has NO effect on the engine during start up. The idea being to have a lower viscosity oil, in the winter, during start up.
