Well I'm trying to do my homework and I'm trying to learn. It's not like I came here asking what's the next step 'cause I bought them already. Also I haven't read anything bad about the 1.7's just how pleased they where because they set it up correctly. (Only read bad things about them because people just placed them in and didn't know what they where doing, no offense.) I understand where you are comming from but mdacton I just want to have all of my options layed out before me before I make a descision.

Run 1.7's with a stock cam for many years, picked up 2/10ths. not issues, but you MUST upgrade the springs. RR's will make more noise FYI

How would you go about enlarging the castings to accomodate the steeper angle of the pushrod?

Someone previously said that the head is incapable of providing the flow of 1.8RR's, and you might actually net a loss of hp. Would porting the intake and getting a larger throttle body to allow at least slightly more flow to the heads rectify this?

I've seen increases of a good 20-30rwhp on a good setup of 1.7's. Without going to a cam, that sounds like a great alternative, especially because you get to maintain the "stock internals" tag to your car Nice way to throw people off.

The net increases on a 1.8RR setup with an aftermarket spring to deal with valve float issues and how much load it's capable of handling is something i'm exteremely interested in.

When you compare the cost of going to a cam setup and having to get different ratio rockers and a new set of springs begins to add up.

Plus, the ease of install over a 1.8RR setup to tearin apart the motor for a cam jus appeals to me, even if that only matters slightly.

How do you do the math to determine how much clearance you have based on stock cam lift numbers and lift of the 1.8's? And anyone know where I could find out more info on the subject? I'm extremely interested in this set-up also.

I am interested as well, I have a blown head gasket so when heads are off, they are getting ported, maybe LE2, but I'm waiting to afford a rebuild before doing cam due to the mileage. I was going to go 1.7 RR, but if 1.8's can be done reliably, I'd rather do that. Key words reliable and effective.

Anyone have any idea who to ask or where to look for this kind of info?

I'll give a call to comp cam and a few other cam companies like Crane and Lunati and see if they can't give me any explination to figure out this little project.
