I tried all the methods and this one was the most accurate/easiest IMO. It takes out alot of the guess work. Give it a shot what the hell.

For what it's worth it is EOIC.

Re: 1.6RR's first drive......

I just installed my 1.6's yesterday. Have not driven the car. From what I saw, there is no coil bind. I would think your lash is just not set properly, happens.
To see which it is, take off your valve cover, turn motor over by hand using crank, watch rockers go up and down, when they go down, check for coil bind, that is the rocker is going down still but spring cannot be compressed any more. If spring has more room left, lash is off.
I think its lash, can be tedious to get it just right.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you said, I'd say it almost a given that you've way overtightened them. You don't tighten them "until you can't turn them" even with a light touch, you tighten them until you just barely feel that the slack has been taken up and resistance is felt. You've probably bottomed out the lifters or something and it surely can't be too great to be driving them like that.

If you've got some kind of popping sound coming from the valvetrain that is probably a sign of some interference and that will likely be quite bad...

I think I remember reading that the Pro Mags like a little less torque then other rockers. Try 1/8 turn and this time adjust them while running. Basically you want to go as loose as you can without any valvetrain clattering.

No need to do it while the engine is running. I hate getting the bay filthy and feeling rushed. You can do it without it running.

Just back off a 1/4 turn and see if the problem goes away.

Hmm that's weird, cause that's exactly how comp cams recomends it.

I am definately going to back them off and do it while the car is running.

When I did it with the motor running I didn't get the engine bay dirty at all. For what it is worth I also have a "white" spring (higher pressure) in the stock GM oil pump, and still no issuses with oil anywhere in the engine bay. Maybe I was lucky
edit: This was after I bent one pushrod, snapped another, and took out two lifters by the "other" methods. The peace of mind is worth cleaning the engine bay, should oil leave the head.

The difference between these two is only like 1/32 of a turn, so no biggie.
