1 5/8 vs 1 3/4?

All that I plan on doing to my engine is a cam, heads and CAI. So for my headers, is it worth spending the extra cash for the 1 ¾ headers? It is a 95 Z28 A4 single-cat.

I believe most people agree if you want heads and cam you need at least 1 3/4" headers. A 95 could be dual cat or single it just depends on if it was a California car.

You only want to buy headers once, so do it right the first time and get the ones with the 1-3/4 primaries. Also if emissions are no concern, get long tubes. Good luck.

U have to basically consider the goals for ur car and what your looking for in terms of performance.

If u want more Torque, go with the 1 5/8th primaries. However, If u want a little more HSP with more upper RPM power, go with 1 3/4th primaries.

The car is single-cat and emissions are no concern, but my problem is money. Im a student who supports himself, so an extra 100-200 bucks on headers could be use towards a cam, CAI or pay for some of the porting on my heads. So I just want to know was how much of a difference these two type of headers are? Also im not looking for a all out drag car, this is my daily driver and need it for a few more years. Just need some power to push around these rice burners!

Personally I would only want to buy headers once! I had to do it twice and two installs is a pain in the butt!! I would save up a little extra money and just get the LT's first.

I can attest to the fact that 1 5/8" MAC mid length headers are good for 12.38 @ 111.9 MPH....
They'll be in the 11's with the new torque converter.

I agree , 1 5/8 are a very good choice when your goal is not ALL OUT DRAG RACING. An every day driver would not really see any of the gain 1 3/4 would give, so the price difference wouldn't be justified. but that is just my .02! Wheelman was kinda on the right track in his post !

I.m gonna catch some flak for saying this but,

Headers are not worth doing unless you go Long Tube.
There are some exceptions like dealing with emissions or if the car is seriously lowered but I put LTs on my stock internals LT1 and it made a HUGE difference.
Just my opinion but after having LTs I would not even consider shortys.

I dunno. I've got 1 3/4 slp shorties and they pulled a certain long tube lt1 from a roll. J/K w/ ya Mike.

Save up and get long tubes. I like my shorties, and they perform great, but get long tubes and never look back.
