***urgent*** need help with this clutch please help

ok this is my problem.i have a 97 z28 with the 6 speed and today i was putting in a new clutch in my car . i was really having problems getting my tranny off. took off drive shaft. took of clutch stuff and unbolted tranny. it moved maybe 3 or 4 inches and no more. so i look in through the side between the tranny and the bell housing and the release fork looked as if it was caught on something. so i popped the little ring that holds the bearings in(not knowing at this time the bearing came out the other side of the pressure plate). but i finally realized after several hours and a lot of cursing and damn near a case of beer that there was a bolt on the clutch fork that once i started to lossen it the clutch fork released its death grip on the bearings and the tranny came free. so know i have gotten the new clutch in and now it is time for the clutch fork again. my question is. how do i put this ****ing thing back in. the bolt that holds it in place is in the tranny and there is no way for me to tighten it when the tranny is against the bell housing. please i need help with this. i plan on finishing this tomorrow.

P.S. sorry about the long post

You didn't need to undo the bolt holding the clutch fork in place. Before you put the tranny back in to mate up, you need to bolt the fork back into place. To get the transmission out, you don't unbolt it, you just pull it. It will pull back just enough to come off the bearing. When you get the transmission back in, you just push it back in and it slides into place.

So, bolt the fork back in with the transmission out, and when you do, pull it outward until it separates from the bearing. Put the transmission back in and you can push the fork back toward the center.

I thought it was something like 55ft lbs, but just get it tight. You might also want to put some locktite on it, because I have heard of some people having their's come loose.
