z28 top speed

According to This article...and I quote "Top speed is governed at 160 mph in SS models, 108 in Z28s" Whaaa?

is this true? Or did they mean to say the v6 model?

I believe the limiter is at 118mph for Z28s that didn't come with Z rated tires. The Z28s that came with Z rated tires are limited at 160mph like the SS.

99 black SS is correct. All LS1's were set to 160 (I thought it was 163 but what's a few mph among friends ) except the ones that were ordered without Z-rated tires. They were in fact set to 118 mph. All the cars dealerships ordered had Z-rated tires and most private owners ordered them as well. So there were some LS1's made with a top speed of 118 but they were few and far between from what I heard.

I can't imagine why someone would order such a nice car and then go cheap on the tires

But some people never intended to drive thier LS1 over 118 mph anyway. I'm not one of them but some people

Yeah I went with the 163 number for a while too. Then I discovered that you can get that high but the fuel shut off is actually at 160. It probably gets up to 163 with the momentem(sp?) it has.

I always get looked down upon from SS's and Vette's because it's "just a Z28." What they don't know is this one outruns Z06's. After they learn this, then they are always mad, never a "wow cool car man." Some people are just like that I guess :blah:

Damn straight there is

LS1edit will definately remove it.

HPP3 and Diablo might remove it, but I don't know

Yes. LS1 edit or Predator can raise or remove the top speed governor I believe. But I would get Z-rated tires first (if you havn't all ready) and then deal with the computer. You want to make sure your car can handle the speed you set or it could cost you your life.

Good Luck

I don't know about you guys, but 135 was fast enough for me! Especially on these roads.
