Post Z06 engine in a F-body?

Has anyone ever done this, put a LS6 in an F-body?

I wonder if my Chevy dealership would price quote me on a swap... do dealerships usually do such work, if you have the cash to back it?

I mean, I dont... I was just curious =)

Someday, it'd be a dream, to put a Ls6 in my car.

Check out some of the aftermarket folks with engine packages like:
http://www.lingenfelter.com/packagesfls1.asp

Why limit yourself to the LS6?

Cool

How about a cheaper alternative. Since you have an '02 you already have the LS6 block, and the LS6 intake manifold. So to complete the conversion all you need are the LS6 heads and cam.

...Which would be a total waste of money. Get aftermarket heads/cam and waste ANY stock LS1 or LS6. Why waste your time putting on stock parts??

About $4-$5K last time I checked And FYI,I don't think the blocks are different. The cost was exactly the same for a '98-'02.

What costs $4k-$5k? You can purchase LS6 heads from Pace for $646.00 each, and the LS6 cam for $217.40 also from Pace. I agree that CNC ported LS1 heads and a cam from Thunder Racing or T Byrne will produce more power.

I'm pretty sure the '01-'02 LS1's share the same block as the LS6.

Over at LS1Tech.com, a few folks have done this when they have needed a new motor under warranty.

Keep in mind that an 02 Z06 weighs 3000 lbs.

So when you look at Z06 performance, it's not JUST the more powerful engine.

A cam swap along would even up the power (to weight) advantage of the Z06.

Actually they weigh more around 3150, not 3000.

What did they do under warranty? Did they get the LS6 motor under warranty?

completing the LS6 conversion is a little more complicated than you think.

LS6 has different oil valley, EGR...

Also heads from GM direct don't come with valves which are $45 each x 16 = $720 ouch..

I would go for the LS6 CNC heads which are $2000, fully assembled and a custom cam and headers...

I'm pretty sure the blocks ARE the same for all year LS1's(but I have been wrong before ).There was some guy on here selling the kits for turning a LS1 into a LS6 for $4-$5k.This came with the intake, seals, gaskets, etc.Everything needed to do the swap. This was also all GM parts straight from the factory.I can't remember the guy's name.It was quite a while ago.

*Some* of the 01/02 LS1s came with the LS6 block. The only source of speculation now is exactly how many. Some "inside" sources say they all got them...some other "inside" sources say that only some of the cars got them (when the normal LS1 block supply on hand was low)...
:dunno:
Anyway, don't forget that it isn't as simple as just changing out the heads & cam. You basically have to replace the entire valvetrain, including valves & springs...I would guess the parts alone would get you up in the $3-4K range...you are definitely better off going with aftermarket stuff...
