Z06 85mm MAF add power?

I found a good deal on a MAF from a Z06 and was wondering if its worth it.

It still has the little air splitter in the middle but it is larger (85mm) so I figure its got to make some kind of power.

what am I looking at? 5 rwhp? 10?

I havent bought it yet but I am hoping to get it monday or tuesday if Im not outbid on it (ebay) I havent bid on it yet but I am watching it

also...will I have a problem fitting it on my lid? I have an SLP lid on the way...I dont think it will fit...what do you guys think?

thanks

Chris

Little or no gain ... possibly even a loss of power ... I lost 3 tenths with a SLP 85 mm MAF and 15 rwhp with a PACE 85 mm MAF.

The problem is the MAF is a measuring device and the PCM is calibrated to a 75mm veined MAF ... porting a MAF or swapping out to a 85 mm MAF results in the PCM getting inaccurate flow information ...

Occasionally someone will get some positive results ... but it has less to do with more air flow, than the fact that the PCM is leaned out ... essentially a crude form of tuning. It happens more often on the 98-99s which tended to be a little rich with a stock tune ...

thats what i thought..thats why when i pulled out my MAF for polishing, I left the inside virtually untouched...I just gave it a quick pass with some 1000 grit.

I think ill pass on the 85mm too

thanks man...quick response

now im gonna go stare at my engine bay and try to find something to do...Im running out of ideas as ive already hidden almost all the wires, etc. and painted what I want painted. all thats left is those darn coil packs. MAN, polishing takes a lot of TIME! Especially the AC stuff. If you want it done right...

I think ill buy some universal plug wires and hide those suckers somewhere(coil packs). I already bought some aluminum sheets and some bolts, rods.

if you want a larger MAF, just get the ends only. don't get the MAF sensor ones. that's where the problem lies. also the other 'problem' they create is it leans the a/f some. if you running rich, then it'll help. if you are in good shape or lean already, it will make for worse running. i pcked up 2 peak hp and about 8 hp past peak when i added the MAF ends to my car. it brought my a/f ratio to just above 13.0:1. and there wasn't a 60 lbs-ft loss of torque. that was just a spike at the beginning of the before run.

Thanks, mullett, but $200 is way too much for me, since I feel comfortable making my own brackets and wiring it all myself.

I thought about it, but decided it would be cooler if I did it myself

Its only a couple wires, and bending a few peices of metal to make brackets, anyways.

If it was for like $120 I would go for it but I dont see paying someone $100 to bend some brackets up.

The plus wires can be had new for about $80, then its just cutting them to fit. After that all thats needed it grounding the wires and ensuring theres no difference in voltage to the coil wires.

Not complaining or anything, just making conversation...
