Question Yet another question about tires...

I've already read hundreds of posts about tires, but none seem to match what i'm looking for. Anyone have any idea about what tires to use mostly for street, a little bit of track, and won't have any problems hooking up with the ground? My camaro will be pushing about 450 rwhp with 4.10 gears and a 3000 stall converter on stock SS rims (17 x 9.5). Obviously traction will be a problem. Any suggestions?

traction=softer tire
softer tire=faster wear

I am happy with the yokohama AVS ES 100s. You might want something softer if you get your car upto 450rwhp.

With 450 rwhp you aren't going to find the tire you are looking for. The closest you can come is the Nitto 555R drag radial. They have a lot more traction than a regular street tire and will last 8,000 to 15,000 miles depending on how much time you spend spinning them. The other "street" drag tires namely the BFG drag radials, the ET Streets, and the new ET drag radials are all have very soft tread compounds and give excellent traction but have a tread life of approximately 2000 miles when actually used on the street. They are actually drag slicks with tread so they can be used in various "street" classes. They are not designed to actually be used on the street. As for a regular street tire designed more for mileage than grip, I agree that the Yokohama AVS 100 is an excellent tire at a very reasonable price. Good luck.

Approximately what kind of mileage are you getting on the yokohamas?

I don't know yet, I have only had them for a few months. I was refering to how well they grip. Stay away from Falkens, the Falkens I used to have had the same ratings as the Yokohamas I have now, but the Falkens were always slipping.

You got that right ... That set up is going to take work to make it stick on a prepped track with slicks ... much less on the street with a street type tire.

You will need to get your suspension pieces in place ... including an adjustable T/A, at least a 1" solid sway bar in the rear, some stiff shocks and probably air bags.

Couple that with an 18x10-11 wheel and the widest tire you can find, a UTQG of no more than 200 - preferably 100 - that will fit in under the fender and run 'em light ... then you might stand a chance of hooking up ...

Good Luck

Sounds like you'll definately want to go with Nitto DR's. Might as well get a pair of 17x11" rims for the back to and slap 315s on. Every little bit helps...

All you need is an additional set of rims/tires when you know you are going racing or something... which is what I want.. What sizes does the et drags come in?

Yeah, it's mostly for street use. I race more around town than I do on the track.
