My car was running fine all day today until I stopped about an hour ago and when I put it into first , it just grinded really bad and the shifter popped out back into nuetral. I had to take off really slow for it to go in first. It did it like 3 times already. I left it at home now but could it be that my shifter is loose or something? I have the pro 5.0. All the other gears work fine though. What is wrong??????

Mine does that, but I'm not exactly sure when. It happens when like it's in gear, then I hit the shifter or somthing so it pops out into neutral, then when I try to put it back in the same gear it grinds, I have to wait a couple seconds before I can put it into gear.

Also this happens to me when I go to shift while the car is moving, I blank out and let out the clutch before it is in gear. I don't try to put it in gear without the clutch depressed, which would also grind, but if I push in the clutch and then go to put it into the next gear, it will grind, and I again have to wait a couple seconds before I can put it in gear.

I never thought much about it. I really don't care as long as I shift right it won't do it

 

Replace the syncro in that gear, it's not that expensive. I would suggest you replace it before it goes completly bad and does'nt go into that gear at all. Which gear is it? I will be replacing my 3rd gear syncro really soon, it grinds every now and then when at WOT and racing it. Good luck with yours

 

I heard that it could also be some sort of adjustment. Two people told me that. I dont know and am very bitter!!!!

 

I am mad because I keep dumping money into these cars and they keep breaking!!! POS's!!!! I am only 18 years old and have owned a 94 Z with a rebuilt tranny, stall, etc and now an ls1 with the mods in the sig. I bought everything myself and have spent a lot of money in repairs for these two cars. I am thinking of buying a ford ranger and just letting the ls1 sit for awhile.Every dime I have goes to this car and it used to go to my last one. I guess I might wait for heads, cam until I get older and wealthier because it is just too hard right now!!!! I love the z28 though. Man this sucks!!!!!!

 

Ya, after havinh my car for only a couple months now and discovering problems and what not, I really wished that I could of gotten a Cobra instead. The mods for Ford are so much cheaper than GM, and more abundant. But then again, I don't want to be caught driving a womans car

 

Try putting the stops all the way forward or else just take them out... My Steeda did the same thing when the stops would just back themselves out.

 

I have owned 1 94 T/A and 1 94 Z28 at 17 years old. Never had any problems! And now at 20 y/o I upgraded to a 02 no problem as of yet. Maybe if you are not so harsh on your cars they would be kind to you. Just a thought.
