Would you buy it?

I'm considering buying a 99 Z28, M6 hardtop. The only thing that makes me think twice is the 140K miles the car has. The guy wants a reasonable price, and I haven't looked at the car. Would you all be scared off by the miles? If not, what should I look for when I go check it out?

I wouldn't be scared if the car was priced around $6000 or less.

What kinds of things should I check on as far as regular maintenance parts and that type thing when I go look at it?

i would see how many aftermarket parts are on it first. this will tell you either what has been broke or if they were worthwhile upgrades. some parts are a giveaway that it was beat the hell out of. definately drive it first...the M6 with stock shifter has a problem with breaking its synchros on hard shifts because the shifter has no shift stops. watch for whining or the shifter popping out of gear.

case in point: my best friend bought a 02 SS M6 with 20k on itfor $15000. had it one week and the M6 startd poppin out of gear in 3rd and 4th. and the car was perfect. just ran hard.

check for smoke out the tailpipes at idle and when running, fluid leaks, and the assorted things. A carfax would be a good idea also.

If your looking for something to dump a lot of money into, then buy it.

If not (depending on budget of course) I'd be looking for something in the average/low mileage area...especially if your looking to hot rod it. If your buying it just to drive from A to B,you might be fine but I still wouldnt buy anything w/ that many miles on it w/o enough money laying around to throw a new motor or trans when either of them goes.
