I know a lot of people have done the v6 to v8 swap in their camaros, I was considering something a little different. I have an '01 Silverado with a v6 (yes it sucks, I know) and I was thinking about putting a v8 in there. I would love an LT1 or LS1 in my truck. Has anyone on this site ever done a swap like this before? Is it fairly straightforward? Any and all info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

Never done it but the LS1 would be the better option as the new trucks come with Gen III V8s so factory hard parts could be used for the install. The physical install shouldn't be hard but the PCM/gage interface could be a bear, I don't really know on that.

 

There is a local guy who put an LS1 in place of his 5.3. The thing runs much stronger now.

IMO, why stop there when 6.0's can be had for the same price as an LS1.

Buy a 6.0 and if you wait it to look like an LS1 just swap to the LS6 intake or even better a Fast 90/90 setup, then put electric fans on it cuz you can't run that type of intake and keep the clutch fan setup. People are doing this sort of thing everyday. I know of a few people personally that have done it.

 

What do you want to do with the truck? It may not be worth the time and money for the swap. I'm not going to tell you NOT to do it as it sounds like a fun project, but there may be better courses of action.
