HELP: Wipers wont go down!

My windshield wipers work but they stay in the up position. Anyone had this problem? Is it a simple relay or are new motors needed?

easy fix I think

This is a physical problem.
I had this problem on my Chevy Venture (not the Z28), but I assume the fix is the same:

Turn the ignition to run the wipers but don't start the engine.

Set wipers to intermittent.

At the moment the wipers complete a back & forth stroke, turn off the key to stop the wipers. They should incorrectly be in the up position instead of the rest position (which is the correct pause point between strokes).

Open the hood, remove the plastic cover over the wiper crank, it pulls off by hand.

Loosen the crank arm from the wiper motor. Don't remove it, just loosen it.

Manually move the wipers and crank assembly so the wipers are in the correct rest position (which is higher on the windshield than 'park' when they are all the way down), but don't turn the motor.

Retighten bolt, replace plastic cover, close hood, restart wiper to see if it works now....it should.

I have the same problem with my 95 Z28. I hope it can be fixed as easily...
One thing im not clear about,
"At the moment the wipers complete a back & forth stroke, turn off the key to stop the wipers. They should incorrectly be in the up position instead of the rest position (which is the correct pause point between strokes)."
On my car when i put the key in and set the car on intermittent wipes, the wiper will go down, pause.... , Wipe upwards and wipe downwards, pause... etc (like it normally does).
Do you mean that i should pull the key out at the exact moment its at its highest point? Or is it different for your Venture (as in the "pause..." part was at the top.

Thanks, hope you can reply soon got school today

toby,

It sounds like your wipers work correctly on the intermittent setting. By that I mean your wipers pause where they are supposed to, near the bottom of the windshield.

Is that right, but then when you turn the wipers off, they incorrectly go up instead of dropping down to the rubber stops?

Had the same problem years ago on my 94'Z28.

The part is actually called a windshield wiper "cover kit."

I've still got the paperwork somewhere.

I'll post the part number a little later; just got home from work.

Okay, here's the part number right off the receipt:

FP Number: 12367295

Description: Cover kit 10.150

Unit price: $86.00

This information is verbatim off of my receipt.

Hope that helped.

Yes that exactly right kkollwitz. Pause right where they normally do. Wipe normally. Except when turned to the "off" position on the clicky thing, they move to the top position. Happend all of a sudden one day.. no idea why.

Fuzzyz28, whats the kit do or include? were you directing that at my problem or the problem by the original poster? Just wondering how a cover kit works really

A cover kit is what brings the blades down into the parked position. don't know exactly how it works.

It shouldn't matter where you turn them off, or how. When they are off, they should go back down in the parked position without doing anything special.

Mine acted like ya'll are describing; that kit fixed it.

Dealer installed it, so I can't really tell you much more about it. Just reference the kit, ask a service tech, and see what they say.
