Wiper probs...

My wipers on my z28 intermintently quit working. One day they won't come on, the next they will. Lately, they haven't been working much at all. Is this a relay prob? Or what?

Lightbulb That's one possibility.

Although, I dunno how you would check for it.

The other possibility would be the switch itself - but, unless you have a spare to plug in and try for a few days, that's another fun one to diagnose.

When they do not work - do they ever stop in mid-stroke - like a relay - or, do they just act like there is no power ?

On the '90 Sunbird I had, it was the wiper control module under the hood that had to be replaced - mebbe $30.00 or so.

I don't remember seeing that on our cars, though.

Good Luck !

Well, they don't stop mid-stroke, they just act like there isnt any power. They just won't come on at all. Wiper control module huh--anyone else know about this that could tell me where its location is?

what i do....is when they stop, I use the washer fluid sprayer and they kick back on. Try that and see if it works. Its a pain, but you can see when youre driving in the rain.

I had a 97 grand am that done that. Once in a while, after the car had been off, the wipers wouldn't turn on, but the washer fluid would spray. I would have to turn them on high and they'd turn on and work nornal at all speeds. Try this and see if it works.

Yeah, I do this also, but I don't want to have to keep on doing this forever. I would like to fix this problem, whatever it may be. I just don't know the components involved in a wiper system to be able to diagnose this....but this wiper control module might be my prob--wherever its location is.

well... if our wiper motors are anything like the ones on the old pickups... then i would guess that wiper module that is part of the wiper motor is bad.. when the pickup wipers quit working... 9 out of 10 times.. it was the module on the motor. and you can get a reman one for a fairly good price... not 100% sure on this.. but it's a thought.

You may be right here. My 89 gmc does the same thing. I'm going to have to check around to see if there is this module I keep hearing about, although I don't know what to look for. Can anyone give me a discription?
