WIERD start-up problem

well cant find anything with search...

Other day, was driving while it was storming.. power cut off for a sec (came right back on), that was the beginning

now when i go to start it, it takes 2-3 times of turning the key to get the display to power up. once its up i cant start car like normal... but when the display doesnt(no power in car), the car is dead, but the neddles jump to 60ish mph and 4kish rpm.

this morning it took me 5-10 min to get it to get power to start my car... the rest of the day it started on the 1st try.

went to autozone, battery and alt is good.

maybe starter? that would make sence, but why would the needles jump if it was a starter? it looks like its a power spike... btw a starter from autozone is 189, 159 with 30$ core...

thanks
cory

ps - if something in this doesnt make sence, let me know

Cool! Another Pewter Z!

Pewter is the best color IMO

j/k, i bought this one and hated the color but it has grown on me.
Its not so load, and "look at me"

I wanted black, but I got a SWEET deal on this one.

Back on topic.....sorry I dont know man.
Check the connections on everything.
My sister's car did the same thing and it was just the connections to the batt.

Sounds similar to the problem I had on my old '97 Z and my brother had on his '96 Z. What happened is that the ignition lock cylinder wasn't reading the little resister (black thing) in the key. One way to check is I believe in both mine and my brothers cars the security light would flash. Thats the only thing I can think of. Good luck!

My advice would be to follow your positive battery cable making sure it isn't shorting out on anything and while you are following it check it at every connection it makes. I'm not sure exactly how the cable is routed, but if I was guessing I would say it goes to the starter then has a cable that goes from the starter to a bulkhead connection of the firewall that splits to the alternator, computer and the rest of the car. Hope this helps.

edit: also follow your negative battery cable and make sure the connection on the other end is good. As for the VATS that could be the problem but, as 6speedz28 said, will usually be accompanied by the security light.
