Why would I have an LS6 intake?

I have a '99 Z that I bought used. One owner before me, was a 30-40s woman that had blonde hair and liked the beach (found hair in the car and sand). I'm guessing she had a husband, or was somewhat into cars. Car had a flowmaster catback and a K&N when I got it.

If you've read any of my threads in the last week, you'd know that I missed a shift and over revv'd my engine. Two bad fuel injectors, 3 bent push rods, bent valve, and a few notched pistons to show for it.

Well, in checking out my car, the GM mechanics discovered an LS6 manifold. Looks completly stock, as they usually do. EGR is there and everything. No records of this being installed by the dealership where I got the car. The lady had papers of every oil change and service done to the car since she bought it new and she had no records. She was in a minor accident with the car, and the front bumper was replaced.

Now how in the world would an LS6 intake get on my car? I'm not gonna complain, cause that saves me 500 bones down the road, but still, wtf?

Don't want to call your mechanic a dummy, but How does He know it's an LS6 intake.

I thought the LS6 intakes didn't have the EGR. We just did a cam and LS6 intake on my friends '99 SS and his LS6 intake didn't have EGR and his was ordered straight from the GM parts counter.

Ok, it's not a very good shot at all. I'll get a better one when I get the car back.

That's what I said. I'm not dealing directly with the mechnics, my dad is, for insurance reasons. I explained to him that maybe they were mistaken, LS6 intakes only came on 01-02s, and all that. He told me that 3 mechanics identified it as a geniune GM LS6 intake. He said they thought it was odd too, but it was defiantly real.

I'm still kind of skeptical myself. I know there are EGR adaption kits for the LS6 manifolds, that can be the only explanation. You can clearly see the EGR hose in the picture. I'm kinda stumped.

No genuine GM LS6 intake has the provision for the EGR.

How the hell do these guys get jobs as tech's? sometimes it kills me know that they are making more money than me and shouldnt even be in the car industry

You can get an LS6 intake with an EGR provision from a number of sponsers. Not GM but still an LS6 intake.

If the tech pulled the manifold & heads to check the damage, he may have noticed different coolant lines, or the difference in the bottom of the intake. He may have looked up the casting number in their parts computer to verify.

So far as how it got on there, previous owner must've bought one from SLP, ARE, etc. The pic you posted is too far away. A closeup of the EGR tube in the manifold, or of the coolant lines in front of the manifold and/or under the throttle body might help.
