Question Why not LS6 Intake and Cam?

Hello all,
Was just wandering, without going to a .560 and a 114 or less LSA, from MTI of course, why not just use the LS6 cam at .550 and use the LS6 intake? I would like something that won't totally alter my driveability. Also, aren't the 01 and 02 SS's equipped with this feature already? Thanks.

01-02's have the intake manifold already...but they don't have the cam. Also, that cam makes more power at the upper RPM levels if I remember correctly. Some people who want more mid-range power would be better off going with a different cam.

still hard to beat an ls6 cam for the cost though.

Kind of debateable considering it is still a pretty dinky cam and for another 200 bucks you could choose from a very wide range of custom ground cams that would gain anywhere up to 10% across the rpm range JMO but pay the extra 200 and get a bigger cam...even a TR224 on a 114LSA could still probably pass emissions if you needed that and would probably gain you another 15-20 peak hp in the process. And at $10 per hp thats not too shabby

Thanks all! I do not have emmisions here in AL, but like I said I still want decent drivability and I have also heard that less than 114 LSA is hard to live with.

yea, I would talk it over with one of the sponsers and see what they recommend..

The only good thing about using the ls6 cam is its relatively mild and since GM uses it from the facotry, it probably will be an almost 0 maintence item..

The 01 and 02 have the ls6 intake... From waht I read, your not going to gain much over the ls1 intake with a stock cam.. not until you put a more agressive cam to take advantage of it..

You will gain a good 15 rwhp with just the ls6 intake.

have you seen this?the reason i ask is because that sounds high.an ls6 intake though not cheap is a worthwhile mod imo.i added one to my 99 along with an ls6 cam.unfortunately i noticed no difference after my intake install.as you add more mods like headers, cam ect youll benefit more with it on.

most people have minimal gains on stock motors but once you add a cam and heads and headers it all adds up...the ls6 flows alot better then the ls1 intake therfore helping aftermarket heads receive more airflow to make more power.

Cool

In my personal experience, a LS6 intake will add 8-10rwhp on a stockish LS1. It is a must with a heads/cam package.
