I had GS-C's on my '87 IROC; I thought the dry traction was excellent, the wet traction was tolerable (what do you expect with a rwd nose-heavy car without traction control?), and the handling was excellent (the best of all four F-bodies I've owned; the car went around corners like it was on rails).
The problem? The GS-C's made the car very sensitive to road imperfections. It would "hunt" in truck ruts, and wander on the road, so bad that I took it back to have the alignment checked a half dozen times over the 7 years I owned the car.
When the GS-C's were worn out (60,000 kms, pretty good for a Z-rated tire), I replaced them with a set of BFG Comp TA's. Voila! No more "alignment" complaints!
The car didn't handle nearly as well, but it sure was easier to drive in a straight line.
I had the F1s on my '00 SS, and had no complaints. Seemed like a pretty good Z-rated tire to me.
I have BFG gForce KDWS's on my '99 TA Firehawk now, and they seem pretty similar to the Comp TA's. Pretty happy with them.
I also have BF Goodrich's on my Z28, and you're correct, these are a GREAT tire. I have awesome water traction and dry traction as well. Just an all around great tire for the cash.

I use Kuhmo tires,Real happy with them.I live in Florida and when it rain it rains.Wet traction is great.Real cheap Y rated 275--35-18 are only $150ish.I like to launch alot so it doen`t kill me to tear up the tires.I know some will disagree, but I have tried them all.
