whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
I didn't read all the replys but I have 3.73's in my LS1 and I had to have the programmer to get the speedo right. I messed around with the shift points and stuff but it wasnt right. I left them stock and have had no problems. Th shift firmness is at 100% it wont hurt anything. The power tuning option is on and everything. Tire sizes selected to. I couldnt feel a power gain or anything, only thing I could tell the difference was is the shift firmness and my speedo became right again. Other than those two reasons, it isnt worth buying it.

I had my car dyno'd last Friday. No "dyno tuning", just 3 baseline pulls.
1) 283 RWHP, 300 RWTQ
2) 288 RWHP, 307 RWTQ
3) 288 RWHP, 305 RWTQ
After the 1st run, the guy said my car was pinging really bad. I've noticed a little pinging at the track, but never thought it was constant, or serious. So on the 2nd run, they hooked up the air/fuel meter to see if the car was running lean. The reading was around ~13.4 to 1. They said that ~12.8 - 12.9 is ideal. So for the 3rd run, I pulled the Hypertech "power tuning" (yes, I had the HPP3 in the car with me!
) to see how it affected the car. This time, there was NO pinging at all, but the air/fuel was actually leaner, at around ~13.7 - 13.8 to 1!
CONCLUSION: the Hypertech actually delivers more fuel than the stock factory program, even though the air/fuel is still on the lean side, but it advances the timing so far, that even running 94 octane doesn't prevent pinging
. Also, the 2nd and 3rd runs looked almost identical (that's with and without "power tuning") but the Hypertech does give better low end HP & TQ #'s (up to ~3500 RPM).SO, for the time being, I'm going to leave the Hypertech program out, but it has been proven to me that my car is in serious need of a DYNO TUNE!!!
The guys at the shop said that no problem, I could drive away with 10 to 20 RWHP more just from a tune (maybe more?
).Oh yeah, and 288 HP / 307 TQ isn't a lot to brag about, but it is through an A4 with 4.10 gears
).
Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
I was going to do the same thing when i dyno my car, but when you reprogram the pcm or take the hypertech program out....doesnt the pcm need time to readjust to all the info and sensors for the new program in it??? Also i was thinking bout putting octane booster in the gas to raise the octane to help prevent detonation, that way if it doesnt detonate, i might actually gain some performance from the hpp. what do you guys think?

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
I don't think it needs time to adjust, since the air/fuel #'s changed instantly, and the engine didn't ping after pulling the tuning.

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
i guess that if you could get it to not detonate then the hpp would gain some hp and torque on top end too... right? so when you are going to the track or dyno just put the highest octane+octane booster! that should eliminate it
