whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
i just got my hypertech today and i was wondering what types of setting should i use, the rev limiter whats the best setting for it? what should i set it to? and shift points and shift firmness, what should i set these to? what setting are you guys using? any other info would helpks ..thanks
Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
if the car has stock cam...raise the rev limiter like 200rpms...stock should be 6200...
as for shifting...try it an see

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
On my LT1 I raised the rev limiter by a couple of hundered but didn't touch the shift points. I only used the shift firmness option and seemed to be working fine for me so I didn't even bother messing with the shift points later on.
Don't have one for my LS1 yet.

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
I raised the rev limiter to 6400 or 6500 RPM I think, just so that if I want to shift the car manually, due to the lag in the shift (from the time I move the shifter 'til the time the tranny actually makes its shift) so that I wouldn't hit the stock rev limiter
.
HOWEVER, since I've now taken the time to play with the shift points more, and figure out "what works" and "what doesn't".....I've now got the shifts set like this:
1 - 2 @ +1
2 - 3 @ +1
3 - 4 @ +3
This is with 4.10 gears though. Before, when I had 2.73's, I believe that it worked best with 1 - 2 set @ +2, and 2 - 3 set @ +3. ALSO, I no longer manually shift, since the shift points work really well where they are
.
As far as the other settings, I've got the firmness set to 100%. Some say it's not good for the tranny, but I've had it this way for well over a year and *knock on wood* no problems
(subject to change, of course!
). I have the "Power Tuning" option selected, which forces me to run 94 octane fuel, and I just have the fans set for the 195* thermostat, since I don't live in a particularily "hot" climate, and I'm not running a cooler t-stat
.

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
another question is should i use the power tuning of the hypertech? i bought it cause i will be getting 373 gears,, and iam curious if the power tuning is worth doing? my car is pretty much stock only mods i have is the slp y pipe, slp loudmouth exhaust, slp air lid, slp bellows, should i use the power tuning? ive heard that many people lost power and this makes the car run lean? any experiences with it? also what shift points would be good for 373 gears?

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
I also used the power tuning in my LT1 and never had any problems in the almost two years I had it. Never did dyno it, but SOTP feel was much better than without the tuning.

From my experience and what I've read, the tuning works best on a bone stock car. Once you start modding the car, things change. I had: FRAmod, K&N, lid, maf, bellow, !CATS y-pipe, and Borla on my Camaro. With the Hypertech tuning, it seemed to f#%* with the timing and lean the car out too much. The car also seemed to backfire quite frequently. Returning the tuning to stock took care of the problems for the most part. But, the car could have used an expert tune with LS1 Edit or something along those lines. Just my 2cents.

Try this:
1 - 2 @ +1
2 - 3 @ +1
3 - 4 @ +3
Run the car, and see how it feels. Try bumping the 1-2 and/or the 2-3 up to +2. It may work with 3.73's, it may not. It'll be more "trial and error", but from my experience, you don't need to raise them up all that high to get good results from the car
(but raising the shift points, even just +1, is worth it
).

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
when changing shift points what aim i looking for? what should i look for when driving the car, how should it feel with 373 gears? iam not to sure how the car should feel? well today i changed my shift points to 1-2, +1 , 2-3, +1, 3-4, +3 and i drove the car and to me the shifts feel the same, i cant tell a difference when i changed the shift points, then i tried bumping the 1-2, to +2 and 2-3 to +2 after that it feels the same i cant tell the difference really, it seems to shift the same when i accelerate, when changing shif points can you feel the differance?

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
Yes, I can actually notice a difference between every setting. With the shifts set too high before, the 1 - 2 shift would actually "lag" or drag on too long (is how it felt) whereas with it set at only +1, it shifts somewhere around ~5900 - 6000 RPM, and when it hits 2nd gear, it feels like a nice solid shift, and the engine is right into its power band again
.
I don't know if you go to the track often, but I adjusted my shift points at the track after making a couple runs (after manually shifting a couple, and allowing auto shifts for a couple). With the shifts set where I have them now, I got about ~.1 second quicker time than with the shifts set "stock", and it matched the time I got by manually shifting

Re: whos uses hypertech and what setting do you use?
ok just got the hpp and i upped the firmness to 50% could feel no difference so i went to 75% still no difference so i went to 100% and when driving normal it feels a little different, but at wot it feels no different. maybe i am expecting too much out of it.
my car is stock and i did the power program and got pinging, but my car sometimes gets ping at wot on very hot days so i guess my car just runs fairly lean from the factory.
