this sounds like what was happening with mine im not sure though...when ud start it itd be super loud then if ud spray water on it itd go away for like 5 mins then start up again...i just replaced the belt (used a goodyear gatorback) and now it runs fine and havent had a prob since

 

my AIR system makes a lot of noise during warm-up, it drives me crazy! thanks to whoever said there is a fuse i can pull to stop it

 

I can almost be 100% certain when I tell you that its the fuel pump.
Most facotry pumps CAN be heard, but if you have an inline boostapump like the ones you get with a Nitrous kit then they whine like hell. You can tell if its the FP by turning the ignition switch to Battery ( dont crank it ) and the whine should appear at this point.

Its not the fuel pump. I am 100% sure of that.

Mine just kind of stopped doing it, but it was only ever a real problem in the summer heat, so if it still does it, it is gonna start doing it again real soon.



When the poster says the whine is loud, he means LOUD. Like loud, you can't talk over it comfortably, loud.

 

Yes I remember this aswell, I had the problem quite a few months back and it was very loud, people inside of biuldings could hear it... Sounded much like lawn guy running a blower that blasts leaves away ... How long does it last after startup? Mine usually lasted 15 seconds from startup and then just vanished... never to be heard again until next startup...

...For me the sound just vanished a few days after I posted this thread and since then I've never heard it again *knocks on wood*... My only guess is that it was the smog pump aswell because it's only active during those 15 seconds after startup and is never used again throughout the entire duration of your running period... ..let me know if you come up with anything...
