Where exactly is the thermostat?

Where exactly is the thermostat?
Is it in the metal coupling or housing on the way to the water pump? In between the water pump and the radiator? I'm dumb.

1) Go to : http://www.installuniversity.com/
2) Click on "Install Documents"
3) Go to "Cooling System"
4) Click on "Thermostat Swap"
There is a labeled picture - Ta Da !!
To answer your question, I'd say it is the "housing on the way to the water pump".
