Where does your temp gauge sit w/ the 160* stat?
Like it says. Where does your temp gauge sit with the 160* t-stat?
I did mine today and It's sitting at a constant 200.
I figured with the cooler stat, it would sit a bit lower. But, come to think of it, engines produce heat and it transfers over to the coolant. THe t-stat would only effect when the coolant starts flowing thru the radiator, from the engine block.
Hmm.... Just a thought. I also accidentally mixed pre-mixed coolant(didn't notice till it was too late). I did a flush a long time ago and there was still DEX in the engine block... WTF?! I thought I flushed all that! Wouldn't it have mixed and circulated by now?

I had my fans reset when I had my LS1 Edit a couple yeas ago.
I read a post a while ago that asked abot the "phony' temp gauge that only reads, like said cold, warm and hot....Is that really true?

On mine the first mark on the gauge is 142* on a scanner, wanted to see when my converter would lock at part throttle after the install. Watched it climb - once within "range" (whatever that is) it settled just under 210. It did go a little above 210 a couple times sitting in traffic at lights in very hot (95*) weather after installing FTRA, and not running the AC before lowering the fans.

I'm still smeliing the coolant that ran off douring the install. I couldn't hose it down, shoulda taken it to the car wash while I was out today.
Still sits at about 200.. odd... I'll have to recheck the level too. I even threw in some Purple Ice, water wetter stuff.

I have a 99 and i have the 160 stat. mine used to stick right at 210 like said before, but now it is actually SLIGHTLY lower. like maybe 10 degrees. kind of strange.

It's true about the phony gauges like one other post mentioned earlier. They really are only good for showing you if your engine is over heating.
I have a Mezeire on mine, it comes w/ a 160* and my fans have been reprogrammed as well. W/ the Meizere turning out 55 gpm, I know it has to be much cooler than the factory pump.
Most of them I know of will sit on 210*, even driving in the dead of winter on a 30* day.

"It does no good to have a 160 stat without reprogramming your fans to match."
that's the biggest load of CRAP that gets proliferated on this board
i guess you probably think that your fans have an affect on your coolant temps when you're running 45mph through the twisties...or better yet 70mph on the highway.
the only times that your fan settings have much of an affect on performance is when you're sitting in the staging lanes. and even then you'll have so much heat soak it really wouldn't matter if they were reset or not.
i guess you could say you'll take advantage of the fan settings when sitting in rush hour traffic...cause we all need that 5hp boost due to lower engine temps when we are in bumper to bumper traffic
i drove for 2yrs on a 160stat in my LT1 with stock fan settings and took full advantage of the lower temps 95% of the time. even in mild traffic the temps would never climb enough for the fans to turn on.
i've watched the coolant temps on my LS1 (scan tool) down here in south florida heat and the coolant runs between 170 and 180 even in stop and go traffic (not rush hour).
so tell me why i need my fans reset?
in stock temps they are sufficient to prevent overheating (assuming all else is OK)

^^ Nah, the temp gauge leveled off for a minute at about 170*... I wasn't driving for more than 10 minutes... It warmed up a little, the leveled off at 170 then climbed to 200 and stayed..
my heater works fine.
