i have a 3400 stall, suspension work and drag radials so i can stall up to almost 2500 rpms off the line and then as soon i get outta the hole, hammer it....leaves with minimal chirp if at all...

with a stock car on street tires, id try powerbraking up just a bit to say, 12-1300 rpms and release the brake... if u spin a little, just wait until u grab and then hammer it....unless u have a lot of power upgrades, stock motor, stock geared cars wont usually break loose again afte theyve grabbed..

its tough to explain, ya just gotta practice ur holeshots....its easy after a few launches...fun too

with a stock converter you will want to launch from an idle, the reason for this is because if you try and stall the converter will heat up on ya and you will run .1-.3 slower.

I've gained about a tenth on a second when launching with a slight brake torque. Around 1000 rpm, ASR off, trans in D, not OD. Stock car with stock programming. I race at Route 66 in Joliet. They usually prep the track really good for the sub 9 second cars, so my stock Z on street tires never has a problem with traction. Some say the computer adjusts better the WOT if you break torque. I don't know if that's true, I just know my launch is better, and my times are lower with a brake torque. I may not do it any more though. I bracket race, and I think I'm less consistent torqueing it up. Best advise I can give.....practice. Develop your own technique, and become good at it.

Best r/t non torque: .007
Best r/t with torque: .040
It's all how you see the lights.

.....interesting. Do you have any data to back up that claim. I have bad 60' times. I usually stalled it at about 1600-2000 (trying to find the best one). anyone have more info?

to get your best times on a stock converter with street tires youll need to stall it.if youre running DRs with a stock converter some people do well flashing their converter.heat your tires up too.

Just my $.02:

I usually pre-load the transmission before I launch, and while this may generate a little extra heat momentarily, I don't think it's gonna kill .1 - .3 seconds. IMO, by doing this, there will be less sudden "shock" on the rest of the drivetrain, and I've cut better reaction times and 60' times this way...

Best R/T to date: 0.512 seconds
Best 60' to date: 2.053 seconds (not bad for 2.73's)

I've found that if I launch off idle, since I'm running the original street tires still, they're more prone to break loose and hurt my 60' times (and subsequently my 1/4 mile times).

To sum it up, I stall it when I'm racing seriously.

from a dead idle my best 60" is 2.006. With any stall it is much slower. The stock torque converter heats up very fast IMO... Mabey it's just my car.
