Wheel size, offsets?

Greetings once again! I can't seem to get the American Racing Torque Thrust II rims out of my mind. I looked at American Racing's website and they have a ton of different offsets, custom offsets, etc. I got a bit overwhelmed, so I thought it'd be easier to just ask you guys/gals.

If I keep the stock size tires (245/50X16), what offset do I order? Is the correct width a 16X8?

Or, if I go with 17's, what would the correct size & offset be for 245's?

Thanks,
Daryl

I want to get the same rim in a 17" but I want as fat as I can go in the rear and as narrow as safe and driveable in the front. What do you recommend for that. Any suggestions on tires (Its a daily driver).

Cap'n,

Minimum width for a this vehicle with a V-8 in CA is 245. That's off the lot, brand new. What you put on from there and what the laws are in LA could be quite different. I would certainly not go TOO narrow in front given the wet weather in LA or traction will suffer in front. Also, TOO wide in back is not always the best idea for traction, too. The wider the tire, the more water that's under the tread creating the chance of hydroplaning. Same principle I experienced while living in CO with the snow. I thought big wide knobby tires would handle anything CO could throw at me... WRONG! I was all over the road. My company truck with stock Goodyear tires ran 1000% better than my truck with big tires.

I asked a similar question about tire widths, etc in the past. Many feel that anything wider than 275 or 285 in the rear will make you subject to hitting the wheel wells 'cuz the tires will stick out beyond the wheel wells. Similarly, some also felt that 275's up front grab too much road and send you all over the place with the road grooves, etc. If I were to go with different size tires front and rear, I'd go with 275's rear and 245's in front. However, I don't think I will go with different size tires. I'll likely get 245 or 255's all the way around and get BFG G-force T/A KDWS' for good traction and decent long wear.

So, word to the wise... "bigger is not always better" (nor is thinner!)

Just some 411 for ya... Daryl

With the 17's, if you get a 17x9.5, you can put a 275/40/17 on it. You could even go as wide as 285's on a 9.5 wide, but sometimes the aftermarket rims are 17x9. The max on 17x9 is 275. There are lots of posts about tires, it all depends on how much money you want to spend. I would personally recommend the Goodyear GSd3's.

I just put 285/35/18 nitto 555's on mine and they look shweet!
