Wheel hop w/ 4.11

I'm getting wheel hop like a **** on the 1st to 2nd shift. How do I combat this? Is this detrimental only to performance or could it stress something mechanically? Thanks

Lower control arms and relocation brackets will help.

An adjustable torque arm would also help.

My first night at the track after the 4.11 install, I got wheel hop on the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shift. It was awful.

I kept dropping the tire pressure between runs and finally got the wheel hop to go away when I got to 24 PSI (Hot) on street tires.

I've got boxed LCA's being built by Spectacle Solutions right now.

Why would I relocate anything? the car is not lowered, I don't really know if changing the pinion angle is a good idea. Hey Roger, I like my Spec Solutions STB and if he wants to get some experimental LCAs out for testing, I'd be happy to try them out. Its nice to seem their line of products expanding.

LCA relocation brackets are also in racing called anti-squat brackets. Lowering the rear mounting point of the LCAs causes the force applied under power to push down on the rear axle in most cases eliminating wheel hop and increasing traction.
This does NOT change the pinion angle at all.
The torque arm alone is the controlling factor for setting pinion angle.

I too would suggest LCAs and brackets to start. Looks as if everyone has covered that already

You meant 4.10s right? There are no 4.11s for the stock rear of a Camaro. I also get wheel hop with my Z/28 and have been told LCAs are the way to go, In fact I am buying them tonight.

I believe there are 4.11's available. I'm not sure if all companies make them, or only certain ones, but they are available. 4.11's use a 37 tooth ring, and 9 tooth pinion, instead of a 41 tooth ring, 10 tooth pinion.

Oh boy ... here we go again.

Yes, there are 4.11 gears made for the stock rear. I have a set of Motive 4.11 gears. I counted the teeth myself to make sure.

Motive makes a 4.10 gear set, made in the USA. Motive also makes a 4.11 gear set, made in Italy. However, I think they use the same part number.

Why did I get 4.11 instead of 4.10? 'Cuz that's what the shop had in stock the night I went in to buy my gears.

To the above question about 4.11s:

Not long ago on this board or ls1tech, someone proved that some Motive gears listed as 4.10s were actually 4.11s. It was said that the gears that were made in Italy were 4.11s and the gears made in the US were 4.10s. According to that info I have 4.11s. *shrug* I dare you to find a noticable difference.

edit: Yikes, you posted that ^ right before I did. lol

No problem JD, 4.11s are noticably stronger than 4.10s.
