What's the proper way to adjust rockers after removal?
I took off a valve cover and removed a couple pushrods over the weekend to verify that I didn't bend any (I over-revved the car a couple weeks ago....missed a shift
) Anyhow, the good news as all was straight and well
But........ I'm not totally sure I adjusted the rockers correctly after removing them to check the pushrods.
I removed the rockers, with each piston being worked on at TDC. (Not sure if that mattered.) When I tightened the rockers back on, the pushrod would tighten (so that I couldn't rotate it by hand, but the valves were still a tad loose in the springs. The rockers still tighened easily until a point where the valve stopped moving in the spring. At this point the rocker bolt was snug. I gave each rocker bolt an additional 1/4 turn to torque them from this point.
So, is this the proper way to do this? (I was doing this by memory from a procedure I read on the LT1 engne.) I was worried about having too much pressure on the lifters from over-tightening. Any comments, techniques, or input would be swell!!
Thanks.

Don't run it like that you'll break the rocker bolts off or worse yet pull the threads out of the head.
LS1 rockers are non adjustable pedestal mount rockers. You bolt them down tight to 22 ft lbs torque.
Here's an excerp from www.ls1howto.com cam swap instructions:
"Insert all 16 pushrods, place the rocker pedestal back on the head, apply LoctiteŽ to all the rocker bolts and reinstall all the rockers. Torque the rockers to 22lb/ft, rotate the crankshaft 180 degrees and double check the torque on all the rocker arm bolts.'
LT1 rockers are stud mounted with adjusting nuts on the studs. A totally different animal.
