What heads to go with

Ok so I have been looking at all different heads and I am trying to decide what ones I should go with. I really like the afr slp heads that are $2500 and they say they will give me about 80 rwhp. But then I see other ones that are alot cheaper then that. Is there any heads that are almost as good for less money and are there better heads for the same money. Please help me out. Thanks

Hp gains from a mod are relative. I guarantee you won't see 80 hp from slapping those head on a bolt on or small cammed engine.

Hand ported heads from GTP or MTI are great choices. I've seen cars with both heads do very well. Meaux is another well thought of porter, but I've never been around a car with his heads. MTI has a Christmas special going on right now.

If you want aftermarket, Trick Flow has a nice head also. If you want ported aftermarket TEA and other shops do this as well. Take your time and shop around. If you're going to put that much $ out, I'd talk to one of the custom porters to get a head taylored to your cam or they can tell you a cam that is taylored to your heads.

Also, the heads need to be matched to what you are planning on building & what you want to accomplish. NA? closed chamber that bump the CR up will help, and the cam you use is critical in the choice as well. Just for the strip? Then some large runners make great power above 4500 RPM, but not much low-end torque. FL Then you need to look at a 8.5-9 CR for boost. AFR makes some of the best & the rest mentioned above as well. The cheaper ones will be an improvment over stock, but not the most power.

Good Luck!

Actually a lot of this has to do with how much money you want to spend. If you want to go cheap on heads like $1000, it's a waste of money imho. The cheap LS CNC heads out there are so bad that fixing them to run later on will still put you way behind a good set done from the start.

What do you want to use the car for and how much do you want to spend?

Heads and cam are like peas and carrots. IMO there is no point in aftermarket heads if you're keeping the stock cam. I would just pay a reputable shop to port your stock heads and call it a day.

If you are getting a bigger cam then that changes everything. I am personally a huge fan of the ETP 215 heads. They are top notch quality and have been proven track and dyno performers. They are also about $2500 for a set.

If price is an issue then you can look at PRC heads/cam packages from Texas Speed and Performance. They can hook you up with a decent HP setup for around $1,600.

First things first:

What cam are you using and what is the intended purpose/goals?
