this may sound like a silly question to some but im not too familiar with the LS engine . Buddy of mine is having trouble with his motor and he needs to know if the heads can be removed with the motor in the car. doesnt seem to be alot of room there. Thanks

 

yeah its possible. Thats the first reaction car guys have to LS1's "omg! there's NO space!" no space= lots of busted knuckles and cussing

 

yeah another friend of mine (good mechanic) who has actually done alot of the work on the car says that the valve covers will barely come off and he wasnt sure if the heads would raise up enough to clear the dowel pins. said the pass. side would be no prob. but the fault is on the drivers side. he says the brake booster may be a prob

 

Yeah it's a little tight under the hood but the heads actually come off pretty easy on both sides . The real pain is cleaning out all the bolt holes afterward and I strongly recommend buying a set of ARP studs . They can be used over and over and if you ever have to pull the heads again you don't have to clean the bolt holes anymore and they are way easier to torque .

 

Yeah the heads will actually go on and off with heads studs installed. There's more clearance than you'd think.
