They're coated because they're 409 SS, not 304 SS (like Kooks, QTP, Dynatech...). 409 SS will eventually rust...304 SS will not.

So same kind of header yet in three diffferent choices depending on the year of the car... whats the difference ? its a same car..same motor.. same kind of headers..why 98 wont fit 00 but it will fit 99 ? I always wanted to know that ... anybody knows what the difference is between those years of ls1..as far as ... headers ?
IIRC, the only difference is the emissions hookups. The AIR tubes and EGR on the '98-'99s are a little different than on the '00s...the '01-'02s have the same AIR tubes as the '00 but no EGR.
That's the only difference, the headers are still the same...the cars are just a little different.

QTPs are on the expensive side but IMHO, they're well worth it (unless you're on a tight budget).

Re: What Headers?

FLP headers are a complete system though, including cats, offroad pipes to put in place of cats, y-pipe, headers. And EVERYTHING is coated. not just the headers. Worth the price in my opinion.

They'll fit... it's just on the 01-02' the EGR was deleted, so if you got, say... 00' headers (like me) you would have to get a block off plate for your EGR.

Or if you got the 01-02 headers for a 00' you would have to delete the EGR on your car.

Re: What Headers?

why not try stainless works headers!! all stainless steel. i think its 800 with off road y and only 1100 with cats. thats a helluva lot better than paying 12-1300 bucks for catted kooks, and qtp and flp....i think someone even posted the hp they gained with stainless works headers...

Re: What Headers?

actually, 409 grade stainless was chosen because it is LESS likely to corrode/rust due to its 2% molybdenum (moly) content. It was also chosen because its more easily welded.

And lets be honest, people are making exhaust components out of stainless steel (any grade) these days because stainless in general doesn't rust very easily, unless a catalyst is introduced (i.e. road salt, sea water, acid rain) hence the reason SLP uses 409--- the molybdenum content.

The ceramic coating certainly doesn't hurt either.
