How the heck are you going to get traction up the wet ramp in a Camaro pulling 1500lbs?

1500 is pretty light for a boat. Your problem isn't going to be driving down the road. Your problem will be getting up a ramp. If the ramps you use are in good shape you shouldn't have any problems at all. As far as drive train ability, the motor is bigger than the LS1 derived 5.3 in my silverado. The 4L60E is the same one that's in my Silverado and the T56 is supposed to be just as strong. Don't abuse the clutch and it'll be fine. Don't tow in 6th. Try not to tow in 5th too much. The rear end is even the same as the Silverado. The brakes are adequate. Of course, the back is gonna sag way down in an F body due to soft springs. You can make sure that the boat is positioned so that it balances on the wheels of the trailer. That way the weight on the tongue will be less. But that will hurt you getting up a ramp too.

I pulled two jetskis with my '92 3.1L 5 speed. Wasn't a big deal, open rear and all.

An auto would be easier, but you should be able to do it with a 6 speed w/o too much hassle.

Wait, are you telling me the Silveradao 1500 has a 7.6" 10 bolt? not at least a 8.5" 10 bolt?

Admittedly I haven't compared the part numbers. But they look the same to me. Both are 342's with disk brakes too. The only obvious difference is the leaf springs on the truck. And even if not, it's not like he's gonna be doing anything like drag strip launches with a boat in tow. I wouldn't worry about it. That's a teeny boat.

Get whatever YOU want!

Is this primarily for towing the boat? Or are you gonna have some fun? Ask youself the questions. Don't let us decide what kind of car YOU want.

An auto would be easier and more practical for towing purposes. If you're good with a clutch, the M6 won't be a problem, and it also has the "fun factor" when just cruising around.

Either auto or manual, your brother might have to mod his car to even keep up.

Towing is serious business, much more than just assuming your car has the power to pull what you want it to.

Even though it's rated, the F-Body wasn't built to tow, I don't care what anyone says.

You rearend will sag and the car won't handle the weight as good as a truck because of its suspension. Do you really want to submerge your TransAm's rear into water to pull your boat out, and if that's saltwater, I know I wouldn't.

I think your best bet would be to go a little cheaper on the TransAm so you can get a cheap Ranger or S-10 to pull your boat. I guarantee you it won't be fun when your T/A isn't getting traction when it's pulling your boat out.
