Water pump gaskets

My 99 SS only has 26,000 miles on it and I discovered that I have a slow leak on the driver's side gasket. I got two new gaskets and I wanted to know if it would be ok to add a little RTV around the "O" rings on the metal gasket? I don't want to do this job on a regular basis. Thanks all.

That shouldn't be necessary. The gaskets you have are very good gaskets.

I believe you have paper gaskets on your car now. At least I think '99s still had them. What a PITA to remove.

Make sure you get it all off before going back. I used a brass wire wheel on a drill motor to get it all clean.

Good luck and don't over tighten ....

They are metal, and dont need any RTV. I changed mine when I did the cam swap and I could tell that they had gone bad, maybe leaking some coolant I don't know, all better now.
