used low mileage ls1 price range
used low mileage ls1 price range
i found a place called schrams and all they have are gm parts. i noticed they had lots of complete ls1 motors w/ computer. i was just wondering what i should expect to pay for one with maybe 20,000-40,000 miles on it. i want to do a swap with my lt1.
Re: used low mileage ls1 price range
why?
you'd have to replace just about everything ... much easier and cheaper to build your LT1
spend much much less money by building your LT1 instead of swapping to an LS1 and spank LS1's around all day long

Why does the dashboard need to be replaced, does the LS1 sit further back in the bay than the LT1 does?
Re: used low mileage ls1 price range
Or you could spend 4k and build the LT1 and have 0 miles compared to a used engine. LT1s are not just boat anchors either. Anyone who isn't Kataklysm knows they are great engines.

Re: used low mileage ls1 price range
I have seen several 383 shot blocks floating around in the for sale area for around $2500. Send your heads of to get them ported, get a cam, injectors and tunning. You will probralby end up right around the same price. I have also heard that the ls1 is a taller engine and won't quite clear under the stock hood of an lt1 car. I am not 100% sure on that so you may want to do a little research.
Re: used low mileage ls1 price range
From what I've seen, or atleast thought... LT1's and LS1's have roughly the same power potential...LS1's are just generally closer to it stock for stock...
Re: used low mileage ls1 price range
From what I understand, the big power difference between the LS1 and LT1 are the heads. LS1 heads have much more cfm stock. The best thing you could do is get some AFR 220's and port the hell out of them. There is much more available to make the LT1s fast. Namely the SB2 heads. But they are rather expensive.
A few other things...
The LT1 is a 2-bolt main (in case you don't know, that means each main cap is held on by 2 bolts). The LS1's come as 4-bolt mains (I think). In this sense, the LS1 block can handle more power. But if you're not putting a supercharger on it, I wouldn't worry. The 2-bolt should be good enough for about 450rwhp (which is around what you will be making with some AFR220's and the right cam). If you wanted to put more power down in the LT1, just put some splayed 4-bolt caps on it. Another thing with the lt1 is that the pistons are lighter. In this sense, it can handle rpms better than the ls1.
If you were lucky enough to get an LT4, I believe they have 4-bolt mains.
Bottom line, either way (ls1 or lt1), you'll be making the same horsepower $ for $.
