Turbo ls1
Turbo ls1
I'm starting to build an ls1 for my '93 Z28. does anyone have any ideas where I could find information on a good cam I could run and what turbo would be best for the engine. I'm keeping the pistons, rods and crank the same and plan on running low amounts of boost, but have no idea about cam specs for a forced induction engine.
I'd switch to a set of 6.0L 317 casting heads to lower the compression to around 9.5:1 and run a cam on a 214-220 intake and 220-230 exhaust on 114-116 LSA to be able to run a small amount of overlap.

You said you wanted a small amount of overlap? Is that necessary for an engine with a forced induction system? Also, I don't have the money for a set of heads on top of the cost of the engine/turbo set up. I plan to just run the stock heads with a low amount of boost...4-6 psi was recomended.
That's why you pick a smaller cam on a 114-116 LSA.At 10.3:1 compression and hypereutectic pistons, you're on borrowed time with boost. All it takes is #7 to go lean one time and your motor is toast. The set of 6.0L 317 heads are only a few hundred dollars used and well worth the insurance. Or you can find someone to trade for the LS1 heads.

Judging by the fact that you've got a 93 Z28 that you plan on putting a low boost turbo setup on an LS1 swap with stock internals, you're doing this on a budget. The stock LS6 cam works very well on low boost engines, and they can be bought MUCH cheaper than a very slightly more efficient aftermarket piece.
still looking for parts :)
Yes this is most definitly a buget build, lol. After I pick up the engine I'm going for a set of the 317 heads and the ls6 cam, any other ideas?
The plan is to do a rear mount set up, but that may change as we begin to build.
Sorry about the delay in responce, I'll let you know as soon as we begin building.
