TR 230/236 or F14 W/DARTS?
TR 230/236 or F14 W/DARTS?
Just got some DART 205's and am looking for which cam to get. Got it narrowed down to either the F14 (232/234 .598/.598 112) or TR 230/236 .592/.602 112. I know that they are pretty close in size but was wondering if one would be a better choice then the other. I was leaning towards the F14 but know I am watching the posts about the chewed up F13's and how hard it is to get a hold of anyone over at FMS. I did talk to David last Monday for about an hour and a half. Which I really appreciated but now I can't get anyone to call me back. I haven't have any problems getting in touch with anyone over at Thunder Racing.

i say the futral cam...just because they are pretty much top of the game on cams these days.
as for thier cams getting tore up...read the thread where Kraest elaborates on that topic.
basically, FMS gets thier cams from the same place as most other companies...including Thunder. so if the product build quality was an issue...it would be an issue with more than just their cams.

F14 for sure
It's just a phenominal cam. I wouldn't worry about the "bad" cams. It's simply because people don't take the time to measure their preloads and don't buy the correct length pushrods. You just can't slap an aggressive cam in without doing your homework. All I know is that I purchased my cam during the "bad batch" along with a friend of mine who bought an F-14. We have no problems, but let Futral do all of the work and make all of the calls about what pushrods to use, what preload to set it to, had our oilpumps ported, etc.
My friend put down 423/408 with the F14 with his z06 on stock heads and bolt-ons....cam-only car... the car is very driveable and is his daily driver.
David is hawk232 on this board... maybe you can try messaging him as well.

this is what Kraest wrote...i figured he had done the research...sorry
"People are having problems with too much lifter preload, pushrod length, using old lifters, etc. The cam thing is a buncha BS if you ask me. Every Futral car that had a cam install done by Futral never had problems with the cams. Any car that had a cam install done by an amateur had a problem down the line. Coincidence? I think not. This IS the internet, where everyone is an automatic engine builder when they visit ls1howto.com and try to install their own internal engine components.
The cam grinder is Cam Motion, btw, which would affect all of Cam Motion's cams....they have ALOT of vendors out there (Thunder Racing being one of them), so if there really WAS a problem, don't you think it would show up on more than just Futral cams?
People want to misinstall stuff and automatically blame it on a vendor. I honestly doubt most of the people who are bitching installed new lifters in their cars or ported the oil pumps, which NEED to be done on an aggressive cam design. Don't even get me started on incorrect pushrod length and lifter preload."
but the idea is the same...if it were a problem with the machineing of the cam...other companies would have similar problems
